اِس غم نے ہم کو مارا کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
We’ve become obsessed with what people will say
چھوڑو یہ غم خدارا کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
For ALLAH’S sake, stop worrying about what people will say
آسان دین ہم کو تب تک لگے گا مشکل
For how long will we think that this simple religion is too complicated
جب تک لگے گا نعرہ کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
As long as we keep crying, ‘What will people say?’
رسمِ بَرات ہو یا ہو وفات کا غم
Be it a wedding ritual or the grief of death
وردِ زباں ہمارا کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
Our tongues keep going, ‘What will people say?’
بُرقعے میں رُخصتی ہو مُووی بھی نہ بنی ہو
If the bride departs in a burqa, and if the event isn’t recorded
ہم کو نہیں گوارہ کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
We won’t accept it, for ‘What will people say?’
اِس دورِ پُرفتن میں بیوہ سے نکاح کر کے
In today’s times filled with strife, people do not wish to marry a widow
بنتے نہیں سہارا کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
and don’t support her, for ‘What will people say?’
اخلاص نے ہمیشہ دی درس سادگی کی
The purest lesson is to live in simplicity
دِکھلاوے نے اُبھارہ کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
But we become aroused by showing off, for ‘What will people say?’
شُعلہ بیاں خطیبوں! چھ نمبروں پہ آؤ
O, fiery orators! Come towards the six numbers
یہی سوچ کر دوبارہ کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
And think once again, ‘What will people say?’
لفظوں سےدوستوں کو ہدہد میداں کی جانب
By words alone, Hudhud could not invite his friends to the ground
نہ کر سکا اشارہ کہ لوگ کیا کہیں گے
For he thought, ‘What will people say?’
